It is the start of the month and I must warn people it is a pretty big month for everyone. People of the world prepare your body to be dominated by the greatest month we have experiences in a long time… JUNE. I say drink lots of water, stretch each morning and try to keep focused the month is only 30 days long.

June 1st- June started off with a battle of wit and memorization, 2006 Scripps National Spelling Bee. Katharine Close spelled “ursprache” correctly to become the first girl to win since 1999. Congratulations, you walking spell-check may it serve you well in the age of lap tops and 14 oz PCs (http://dynamism.com/). And on a ironic note my spell-check does not recognize this transitive verb for memorize as a word.

June 5th through 8th – Coming into the month of June Yankees and Boston Red Sox are 31-20 in the AL East standings and the Roger Clemens lottery decided it is time to move on and keep the story on where it should be… the beating of each team and October-like intensity. The Bronx will be invaded by the Sox. Which ever team comes out on top a few things are certain… 1. One team will come out with serious bragging rights (Yankees up 4-3 in the season series) that will be good until August 18th. So the enjoy of this series is imperative unless you love school which is what comes with the next series.

June 5th- its finally- Lord Stanley’s Cup. Enough said I know nothing on Hockey. It is really only here because a man from Sweden made me watch so many games this year.

June 7th- World Cup begins along with our month long three channel German travel series showing us all that not only do Germans love David Hasselhoff but they also know how to throw an mean athletic competition. All of this mixed with a dash of athletic ability, a pinch of skill, and a large amount of international passion. The national bandwagons will be full in the all-competing counties without a doubt, the US could be short a few members I am taking applications for key spots.

Mid-June- NBA finals. A new champion will be crowned, personally I got Miami. Miami vs. Mavericks will battle it out for six games of fun but in the end D. Wade will spot up with mid-range jump shots and aerobatic moves (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RICDYH_ocAo).

June 16th- 18th- Atlanta versus Boston in Atlanta. Seeing how yours truly will be in the Atl with Lil’ Jon watching the games it is tough to not figure out the importance of this event and why this is on the calendar.
June 16 till the end of June- 64 teams, tomorrow baseball’s super stars today, celebrities sightings, an aluminum powered team, and a host site that makes some of the finest steaks in the world just to name a few. That’s right folks grab some chips and find to shift your thoughts and television channels from the battles and stars of the world to the future stars of the American pastime. The place where baseball can take center stage and for a short time under the Nebraskan sunshine we can all what pure happiness is… baseball in Omaha. While the World Cup cannot seem to contain itself to this grand month, it finds a need to last until July 7th, maybe they are working off some crazy ancient German calendar.

June 28th- NBA Draft. Does anyone else have a problem with the project number 1 pick only averaging 25.9 minutes and only 12.3 points per game? Maybe it is because I am from a school that can put 4 players in the top 15 in the 2005 draft. Maybe it is because I have been dunked over my one Sean May and seen the passes of Raymond Felton wiz by me at lightening speed. Come on people this 19 year old is not that special it does not seem from what I have seen. T-Time, as he is called, does not have that great numbers when you look at them: for every block that he is so known for he has .83 fouls to go with it, an assist to turnover ratio that leaves something to be wanted in 1.3/1.8, and a pretty light frame at 6’9 215lbs.

June 30th- stooped in history 1960 Congo gains independence from Belgium, Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind came out today, and 26th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution came into being on this date. Course there is the birth of author of this calendar.
